Primordial Star Formation under Far-Ultraviolet Radiation

چکیده

Thermal and chemical evolution of primordial gas clouds irradiated with farultraviolet (FUV; hν < 13.6 eV) radiation is investigated. In clouds irradiated by intense FUV radiation, sufficient hydrogen molecules to be important for cooling are never formed. However, even without molecular hydrogen, if the clouds are massive enough, they start collapsing via atomic hydrogen line cooling. Such clouds continue to collapse almost isothermally owing to successive cooling by H free-bound emission up to the number density of 1016cm−3. Inside the clouds, the Jeans mass eventually falls well below a solar mass. This indicates that hydrogen molecules are dispensable for low-mass primordial star formation, provided fragmentation of the clouds occurs at sufficiently high density. On the population of primordial star clusters in the presence of ultraviolet background radiation

We use the algorithm of Cole et al. to generate merger trees for the first star clusters in a cold dark matter ( CDM) cosmology under an isotropic ultraviolet background radiation field, parametrized by J21. We have investigated the problem in two ways: a global radiation background and local radiative feedback surrounding the first star clusters. Cooling in the first haloes at high redshift is...

On the population of primordial star clusters in the presence of UV background radiation

We use the algorithm of Cole et al. (2000) to generate merger trees for the first star clusters in a ΛCDM cosmology under an isotropic UV background radiation field, parametrized by J21. We have investigated the problem in two ways: a global radiation background and local radiative feedback surrounding the first star clusters. Cooling in the first halos at high redshift is dominated by molecula...

The Lyman continuum radiation escaping from galaxies

The Hα luminosity density of galaxies is used to calculate the local diffuse radiation field at the Lyman limit as resulting from star formation in the universe. The fraction of Lyman continuum radiation leaking out from galaxies through their neutral hydrogen is the most uncertain parameter of the calculation. A comparison of the diffuse radiation predicted from galaxies with that measured fro...

Regulated Star Formation in Forming Disk Galaxies under Ultraviolet Radiation Background

We perform radiation hydrodynamics simulations on the evolution of galactic gas disks irradiated by ultraviolet radiation background. We find gas disks with NH & 10 cm exposed to ultraviolet radiation at a level of I21 = 1 can be self-shielded from photoheating, whereas the disk with NH . 10 cm cannot. We also find that the unshielded disks keep smooth density distribution without any sign of f...

Simulations of Early Structure Formation: Primordial Gas Clouds

We use cosmological simulations to study the origin of primordial star-forming clouds in a CDM universe, by following the formation of dark matter halos and the cooling of gas within them. To model the physics of chemically pristine gas, we employ a nonequilibrium treatment of the chemistry of nine species (e , H, H+, He, He+, He++, H2, H þ 2 , H ) and include cooling by molecular hydrogen. By ...
